Lot 66: Fixed Price Dining is Fine Dining

By Rebekah SkochinskiThough feasting prix fixe (fixed price) has been around since the late 1800s, it’s still extremely popular because it’s a great concept and one that is especially appealing at the start of the new year.Lot 66 offers a set menu Tuesdays through Thursdays with a choice of a starter, an entrée, and dessert for $30. You can begin with either a feature soup or the Lot 66 Caesar salad—a knock-out plate of romaine hearts, caramelized bacon, roasted croutons, and Grana Padano.Executive chef Michael Roulston says the entrées include a seasonal vegetables and a selection of popular dishes, like pan-seared Lake of the Woods pickerel with a lemon and dill cream sauce and roasted potatoes, veal picatta with caramelized onion and mashed potatoes, or garlic jumbo shrimp with fresh herbed butter and sweet pea orzo.I settled on the pan-seared chicken in a very flavourful mushroom sauce, which was served atop a tasty sweet pea risotto. The golden beets and tender and sweet broccolini were a lovely complement. But of course, what is a great meal without an appropriate sweet ending? The dessert presented just happened to be one of my favourites: crème framboise—a delicate vanilla bean custard with raspberries and caramel. While sitting beneath the soft glow of the amber-coloured pendant lights and sipping on a glass of Ontario chardonnay, I reflected on the fact that dining prix fixe is great value if you’re on a budget because the food and the experience at Lot 66 are anything but.View the Lot 66 Prix Fixe Menu
