Bizhiki

North Shore Music Association Presents Bizhiki: A Multidisciplinary Performance of Contemporary Ojibwe Music, Storytelling, and Culture
Saturday, November 8 | 7 PM | Arrowhead Center for the Arts, Grand Marais

On Saturday, November 8 at 8 PM (ET), the North Shore Music Association (NSMA) proudly presents Bizhiki at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts (51 W. 5th St., Grand Marais, MN). Tickets are available at northshoremusicassociation.com in sliding-scale pricing tiers with reservations encouraged as a full house is anticipated.

Bizhiki offers audiences an intimate, immersive evening of music, storytelling, and multimedia art centered on contemporary Ojibwe culture and lifeways. The performance brings together the powerful vocals and drumming of Dylan Bizhikiins Jennings (Bad River Ojibwe) and Joe Rainey Sr. (Red Lake Ojibwe) with the modern soundscapes of S. Carey—a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his work with Bon Iver and as a solo artist.

Through a blend of powwow drums, percussion, drum programming, electric bass, synthesizers, guitars, piano, and vocals, Bizhiki explores themes of identity, loss, revitalization, and resilience in the Anishinaabe experience. The live performance integrates evocative visuals by filmmaker Finn Ryan, striking lighting, and layered sound design, creating a cohesive, moving artistic experience.

Beyond the concert stage, Bizhiki is committed to education and community connection. The artists will spend Friday, November 7 at Cook County Schools ISD 166, leading workshops and performing for students to deepen understanding and foster dialogue around Indigenous culture and art.

Audiences can expect to leave the November 8 performance feeling intellectually, spiritually, and culturally nourished—a powerful opportunity to engage with Ojibwe culture through the lens of music, art, and storytelling.

For tickets and information, visit northshoremusicassociation.com.

This event is funded in part by the Cook County Community Fund and the Anishinabe Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.

Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors

Cambrian Players is pleased to present DRACULA: A COMEDY OF TERRORS - a Bram-new comedy you can really sink your teeth into - written by Gordon Greenburg & Steve Rosen and directed by Maranda Dumas.

Ever wondered what would happen if you took Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale and put it into a blender with Mel Brooks, Monty Python, and The 39 Steps? Filled with clever wordplay and anything-goes pop culture references, this production is a gender-bending, quick-changing, laugh-out-loud reimagining of the gothic classic, perfect for audiences of all blood types.

When her sister Mina falls ill with a mysterious disease of the blood, Lucy Westfeldt and her fiancé, Jonathan Harker, enlist the help of famed female vampire hunter Doctor Jean Van Helsing. Their hunt for the dangerous (and sexy) Count Dracula abounds with clever wordplay and quick-change antics.

*Please note: This play deals with some adult themes, including sexuality, mental health, and violence.

CONSORTIUM AURORA BOREALIS CONCERT: J. S. BACH AND SONS

CONSORTIUM AURORA BOREALIS CONCERT: J. S. BACH AND SONS

Consortium Aurora Borealis Concert: J. S. Bach and Sons

In 2025 Consortium Aurora Borealis and the rest of the musical world mark the 275th anniversary of the death of Johann Sebastian Bach. This towering figure of the Baroque surpassed all others during this period, and was venerated throughout history as one of the greatest composers of all time. Composer Richard Wagner called Bach “the most stupendous miracle in all music!”

We therefore invite you to come out for “J. S. Bach and Sons”, an evening of eloquent chamber music. We’ll hear gorgeous solos, duets, and trios by this supreme genius of music, as well as by two of his composer-sons, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Both sons were keyboard virtuosos, wrote expressively and innovatively in their own unique voices, enjoyed renown, and bridged Baroque and Classical styles.

Flutists Penelope Clarke, Doris Dungan, and cellist Peter Cosbey reunite, joined by special guest harpsichordist Borys Medicky of Toronto. Medicky concertizes extensively as harpsichord soloist and chamber musician, as well as being a church musician and a sought-after harpsichord technician and maker. There will be a ballot draw at intermission for a gift certificate to The Cheese Encounter.

The concert is generously sponsored by Elizabeth Ganiatsos

AANIKOOBIDOON II

Stringing together past, present and future

curated by Melissa Twance and Shelby Gagnon

A beading exhibition at Co.Lab Gallery, in partnership with the Thunder Bay Art Gallery’s Aanikoobijiganag Bead Symposium

Aanikoobidoon means “to string things together.” In its second iteration, this exhibition brings together Métis and Anishinaabe artists to celebrate the relationship between our peoples and the plant world. For generations, we’ve relied on the plants around us for food, medicine, and inspiration. Through their art, these 14 artists weave stories of connection, healing, and tradition, featuring work from:

Caitlyn Bird

Belmo

Alicia Brink

Cher Chapman

Sheila Demerah

Nancy Gouliquer

Margaret Firlotte

Sara Gilbert

Katie Longboat

Mary Magiskan

Helen Pelletier

Leanna Marshall

Amber Sandy

Zoey Therriault

and Jamie Thompson

We're pleased to present a special pop-up market as part of the Anikoobijiganag Bead Symposium, featuring local artists, makers, and artisans. Expect to see beadwork, ribbon skirts, quill work, paintings and prints, and more. Support local!
This exhibition and craft market has been so gorgeously supported by the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, Curling Canada, Goods & Co Market and has been a welcomed event coordinated in partnership with the Thunder Bay Art Gallery's Aanikoobijiganag Bead Symposium. Miigwech!

Consortium Aurora Borealis Concert - Clarinet Quintets with Peter Shackleton

CONSORTIUM AURORA BOREALIS CONCERT SAT. SEPT. 27, 2025

Consortium Aurora Borealis presents an exquisite concert of Classic and Romantic chamber music, which we know you will enjoy! Peter Shackleton, Principal Clarinettist of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra since 1988, is joined by violinists Katie Stevens and James Moat, violist Patrick Horn, and cellist Peter Cosbey, to perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s and Carl Maria von Weber’s celebrated quintets for clarinet and strings, beloved staples of that instrument’s repertoire.

Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major, K. 581 was composed in 1789, the same year as the French Revolution. It is marvellously melodic, mellow, and at times mirthful. Weber’s Grand Quintet in B-flat major, Opus 34 for clarinet and string quartet is brilliantly concerto-like, a solo with string accompaniment. It was completed in 1815, the year Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo. Both quintets were written for specific virtuoso clarinettists who were good friends of the composer. Mozart’s elegant String Quartet in D minor, K. 421 leads off our concert. There will be a ballot draw at intermission for a gift certificate for two tickets to any Magnus Theatre production within their 2025-2026 season!

The concert is generously sponsored by Saverio Veltri: TD Wealth.
