The Edge of the Earth

Aysanabee Releases New Album

By Deanne Gagnon

After dedicating his first album, Watin, to his grandfather, and calling his second a “Taylor Swift break-up album,” Juno Award-winning Aysanabee is back with his third release, Edge of the Earth. This time, he’s drawing on his own experiences—who he has been, and the pivotal moments that shaped him.

“This third record just offers many of these little windows into different versions of myself, so you do kind of get just a new window into me as an artist,” he says. “Every song I write is very much some sort of impactful moment in my life. […] Every song has shaped me, or has kind of rocked my world in some way.”

With his distinct, soulful voice, Aysanabee creates songs that somehow feel both familiar and brand new. Some moments are reminiscent of Avicii, others carry the emotional pull of Hozier or the cinematic sound of Imagine Dragons. Each track feels like a time capsule—capturing specific moments, memories, and versions of himself.

“‘Edge of the Earth,’ being the first single, made sense—it fits the theme of the record, which is reflection, growth, and evolution,” he says. “And that’s one thing about this album that I’m really excited about: sonically, we’ve explored a lot of places that are really where I’m at […] leaning more into a rock sound [with a] more modern, interesting, sound-scapey texture.”

As an Indigenous artist, Aysanabee admits he sometimes puts extra pressure on himself—wanting to be a role model, to represent, and to leave spaces better than he found them. That weight shows up in the music too. He touches on this while talking about “Without You,” a raw and powerful track about the grief of losing his grandfather, who passed away last May.

“That was kind of just a final little piece of wisdom, you know—like, do the things you say you’re going to do. I took that to heart.”

Edge of the Earth will be released on June 20. Visit aysanabee.com for more info.
