A6: Lights
Many of you may know Lights from her 2000s emo pop era; now, while we all may be ready to leave the extreme side bangs behind (if you know, you know), Lights’s new album A6 shows that she is ready to enter a new musical chapter. A sonic blend of synthy indie-pop, A6 is a testament to this Canadian artist’s adaptability and versatility. Throughout the album, Lights strikes a delicate balance between rhythmic, catchy beats and down-to-earth, vulnerable lyrics. Standout hits include “WHITE PAPER PALM TREES,” a toe-tapping pop hit with dreamy electronic synth, and “TAKE IT EASY,” a moody, trippier track with an irresistible snare drum line. Lights has always been celebrated for her lyricism, and this album is no different. She sings about loneliness, the pain of growth, and a desperate need to feel alive; after all, you can’t spell emotional without emo.
