Summer in the Parks Concert Line-up Announced

The Recreation & Culture Division has announced another fantastic lineup of live entertainment for the 2015 Summer in the Parks concert season. Eight outdoor concerts are planned featuring new acts, as well as returning favourites, for this year’s Summer in the Parks series. Concerts take place at Marina Park, on the main stage under the bandshell, on Wednesday evenings from 6-9 pm, beginning July 8.“Summer in the Parks has become one of the most prominent community events throughout the summer that the whole family can enjoy,” said Dave Mossman, events supervisor. “The Advisory Committee that chose the line-up is proud to bring a total of 24 acts of various styles and genres to the stage this season to please audiences of all ages and tastes.”The stage will come to life on July 8 with Bottom of the Barrel (Dixieland jazz), Woodblind (SKA) and James Boraski & Momentary Evolution (roots and rockin’ blues). The series continues with old favourites and up-and-comers throughout the summer, including some out-of-town guests. In addition to great music, Summer in the Parks evenings feature children’s activities, free draws and a variety of on-site concessions. There will also be an artisan market, with local artisans displaying and selling art in the park during the concert series. ‘Caricatures for Charity’ will be returning as well with proceeds going to Shelter House.Summer in the Parks is also the first event where the City’s new smoke-free events policy will be implemented. Smoking will be prohibited in the festival area to create a safer, healthier, and more pleasant event experience for everyone. All attendees are encouraged to take advantage of the Summer in the Parks Shuttle Bus that will be running from the Court Street Parkade and traveling through the downtown core. Concert-goers can flag down the shuttle bus anywhere along the route and will be dropped off right at the festival area. There will be no general parking around the festival area but limited accessible parking will be available inside the park with a valid permit.
