Song of the Summer
Lockyer Boys Release New Single “306”
By Sara Stoppel
The Lockyer Boys have an exciting summer ahead of them. The musical duo of brothers Will and Charlie Lockyer hit the local pop music scene in 2021 and quickly gained traction. Now, after two years of working on a batch of songs, their new single “306” releases today.
“306” is a chill pop melody with biting lyrics written by Charlie Lockyer. The song was initially created at their Thunder Bay home but finalized in a Los Angeles studio with their team of producers. The Lockyer Boys say they also plan to release a follow up single on June 27. Later this year, the duo says they hope to release an EP they’ve been working on, which was recorded in Vancouver.
Written in the summer of 2023, “306” is deeply personal to the Lockyer Boys. The song title refers to Saskatchewan’s area code, where the brothers spent time that year. The concept revolves around lost love and resisting the urge to reach back out again. “It’s a feeling that even though things ended badly, I’d do it all over again,” Charlie Lockyer says. The song’s mellow guitar and bass riff interplay to create a bittersweet melody reflecting on years passed. “It’s unique and I hope the listeners appreciate that rawness as well,” adds Will Lockyer.
“We’re ready for a bigger project now that we’ve done the hard work,” says Charlie Lockyer. After four years of dropping tracks and touring Canada, the brothers are eager to connect with fans through a more expansive body of work.
Despite the busy schedule of the two musicians, they couldn’t be happier. The next few months for the Lockyer Boys will be spent bouncing between cities, writing, recording, and sharing more music from the Lockyer vault. “It’s so surreal,” says Will Lockyer.
The Lockyer Boys’s newest single “306” is available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
