Inspired by a breast cancer survivor’s own journey, The Butterfly Story project has transformed breast cancer survivors into living works of art representing symbols of strength, hope, and poignant aspects of their journeys. This exciting and innovative project began right here in Thunder Bay.

On September 25th, more than twenty photographs, taken by Izabela Pioro, of breast cancer survivors will be exhibited for the first time at The Butterfly Story Gala. After more than a year in the planning, you will hear from the people behind the project, meet many of the models, watch much of the process on video, view the incredible images in a gallery setting while enjoying an assortment of refreshments and socializing. Doors open at 6:15 pm at the Victoria Inn Ballroom.

“The Butterfly Story gives breast cancer survivors the opportunity to tell their story by becoming incredible works of art,” said Michelle Blackburn, Butterfly Story Project co-creator. “While each survivor’s story is incredibly unique, it has been interesting to note common themes such as the importance of family, friends and pets; of nature; of bodies of water and of physical activity. This evening of inspiration will have you looking at breast cancer in a whole new light.”

The Butterfly Story Gala is the perfect prelude to October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the 100% of the proceeds to go to the Northern Cancer Fund. The Cancer Fund will, in turn, provide all of the proceeds to the Thunder Bay Breast Cancer Support Group to help survivors continue to thrive. It is also our hope that the Butterfly artwork will inspire other survivors and their families by changing the way we look at breast cancer and opening the discussion from diagnosis and treatment to living and flourishing.

Tickets are $75 each and available at the Foundation Office of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and on-line at Keynote Events KeynoteEvents.ca.
