Everyone is invited to celebrate opening day at the new Baggage Building Arts Centre, Splash Pad and Mariner’s Hall Exhibits at Prince Arthur’s Landing, Friday, June 15, from 1:30 pm – 9 pm. The heart of Prince Arthur’s Landing will be alive with free activities for all ages.
For their first open day, the Baggage Building Arts Centre will be giving a sneak peek at some of the many activities that will happen in the Centre on a regular basis. Visitors can admire and purchase works by local artists and artisans in the display areas, Gift Shop Gallery, and artisan market; watch artists paint murals for the Community Art Fence; and interact with busking musicians and performers. Kids can try their hand at making a waterfront silhouette to take home.
All ages will enjoy a splash in the new state-of-the-art splash pad, which is being tested this week in preparation for opening day. Water for the splash pad and adjacent water-feature wall is recycled through a UV filtration system and does not go through the Atlantic Avenue Water Pollution Control Plant. An excellent way to cool off on a hot day, the water feature will be running from 11 am – 9 pm daily, and will provide hours of enjoyment. On opening day, fun and games nearby will include a bubble station, chalk art murals and more. A perfect family destination for the PA day.
Interpreters will also be on site to share their stories about three new exhibits in the Mariner’s Hall. Friends of Grain Elevators will illustrate how Thunder Bay flows grain to the world, the City Archives will show the changing face of Thunder Bay’s waterfront, and the Canadian Navy will share over 100 years of history. Get ready to learn something new!
On-site amenities include food vendors and changing facilities. Visitors are reminded that parking is limited to designated spaces only. Walking, biking, carpooling, take public transit or park in the downtown core is encouraged.
Summer is almost here, come celebrate at Prince Arthur’s Landing!
