Over 50 artists spend one week capturing precious moments in the northern Lake Superior landscape. The public is invited to watch the creative process as well as view the work in an exhibition.

Grand Marais, Minn., 8/14/12 – Artists leave the studio and venture into the great outdoors to celebrate the unique beauty of the North Shore landscape. Witness blank canvasses become exquisite moments in local history. An exhibition sale of the week long competitions work will be on display from September 14-30, 2012 at the Grand Marais Art Colony.

The North Shore of Lake Superior is juxtaposed between inspiration and recreation with a deeply rooted connection to the arts. For generations people have migrated to this area seeking solitude and adventure, leaving inspired by the North Shore landscape until their inevitable return. For over 64 years, Grand Marais has maintained a strong relationship between outdoor recreation and artistic pursuits due to Birney Quick’s, one of the founders of the Grand Marais Art Colony, vision to form an outdoor school of painting. Many aspiring and professional artists have sought creative guidance and instruction in the Art Colony’s hallowed halls, all contributing to the growth and formation of this
community.
