Magnus Theatre’s inaugural production of the 2015/2016 season—the company’s 44th—will bring feverish ballads and pensive songs of love and faith with Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash. Strains of everything from vintage country and rockabilly to resounding rock and roll fill a score that provides an exuberant fabric through which the story of Johnny Cash is brought to the stage.
Created and adapted from the Broadway production by Richard Maltby, Jr. (Miss Saigon) and Jason Edwards, Ring of Fire spotlights the music of this musical legend as five remarkably talented actors/singers/musicians give life to the early years of Johnny Cash and to the songs so easily recognized and celebrated as part of a collective experience. This production lets Cash’s music chronicle the story of his life. Unlike the traditional revue or jukebox musical, Ring of Fire immerses audiences in the trials and triumphs of this legendary yet profoundly tormented artist, as his songs tell the story.
Magnus Theatre’s Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash runs from September 14 to 26. For more information call the box office at 345-5552 or visit magnus.on.ca.
